Strong women 4

I have another lady I would like to write about in my strong women series and that is my 2x great grandmother on my father’s side Ellen Taylor nee Meopham. She was born in 1870 in Maidstone Kent and was the eldest of 8 children born to Frederick and Jane Meopham.

In October 1891 she married my 2x great Grandfather Stephen Winch and together they had 13 children between 1892 and 1921.

I have found that there were several stories in the newspapers about Ellen and Stephen.

One of those stories in 1896 about them was to do with her beating her husband around the head with a poker because he went shopping with his mother instead of her.

From what I can see on the 1921 census they were still married after this incident and had 8 more children and stayed married until Stephen died in 1935.

I’m not sure I would have wanted to get on her wrong side. This takes strong to a new level.
