Siblings
As Friday 10th April is international Siblings day I thought I would do a post on the different sibling relationships I have found during my family history journey so far.
As I have mentioned in a previous post I am the only girl in a family of three brothers. I have different relationships with all of them. With my eldest brother it was more like having another dad as there is a 17 years age gap between us. My middle brother we had a love hate relationship growing up but since being adults we get on better. My relationship with my youngest brother was completely different to my other brothers. We have similar interests and similar personality traits and we also lived at home with our parents the longest so I feel I was closest to him then any of my other brothers.
Both my parents have 4 siblings each and are both the eldest child. My father and his siblings are not that close, I think this was because they always found my dad to be the annoying older brother. There was also a bit gap between my dad and his youngest brother and sister as 10 years and 13 years between them .
whereas my mum is closest to her sister who is the youngest of her siblings. She has two brothers which she gets on better with one than the other. The one she does get along with is the one brother who my grandparents could not leave her with when she was younger as they would probably have killed each other.
My grandparents on my father’s side both came from big families and both were 1 of 8 children. From one story I have been told my grandfather was closer to one of his sisters than his other siblings to the point that they both moved to the same area of Kent when they both left London so they were not to far from each other and his sister married one of his friends from the army.
I find the different family dynamics so interesting how we can favour one sibling over another when we all come from the same parents.
